Worst Hearing Aid on the Market
In or around August 2016, I received an advertisement in the mail from United Health Care for a hearing aid for my brother. I contacted his primary physician for his signature on the required Physician Clearance Form signed on 8/25/2016.
I did not know that UHC purchased this hearing aid company.I submitted the Clearance Form and made an appointment for October 12, 2016 where he received a hearing test and a hearing aid at the location 165 Broadway Suite 2300, NYC NY. We did not pick up the aid until the mold was made a few weeks later. I paid $565.00 for the test, mold and the aid which is the in-network price requested by Hi Health Innovations. I paid for the services with my credit card.I learned that United Healthcare purchased Hi Health innovations to provide hearing aids to Medicare recipients who pay $115.00 plus $112.00 annually for health care services with an in-network choice for hearing aids; however, there are numerous problems if the company cannot provide sustainable services to their subscribers who need to repair or adjust the aids they are selling.
In addition, they are asking subscribers to fax in their hearing testing information via fax and sending the aids via mail back to subscribers. The results of the testing are variable depending on who does the test and where it is performed, thus the aids that are being provided may not be suitable. The testing results from Hi-Health Innovations were so poor the Audiologist could not use them, thus I needed to have my brother re-tested.The business model of UnitedHealth Care’s Hi Health Innovations Company needs to be addressed so that consumers including those with Medicare are receiving quality hearing aid services from a reputable provider. We returned to receive the mold and hearing aid. The mold did not fit correctly and my brother had difficulty inserting the mold correctly into his ear as he has a developmental disability. The mold finally broke.
I contact Hi Health Innovations for an appointment for another mold which was scheduled for January 22, 2018 at 9:30 am. No one was available to help us as the provider called to report she was sick. I contacted Hi Health innovation and was informed that I would have to pay $130.00 for another mold. There was no one in the office located at 411 Lafayette Street, 6th Floor, Regus Office Suites, Manhattan NY 10003. It appears that this is a private office not a company so if the one person who rents the office does not show up, there is no one there who can provide the service. There were problems with this hearing aid from the minute I picked it up.
There is no way to turn off the hearing aid except by opening the battery compartment. It must be removed from the ear and the compartment opened. As you guessed the battery promptly falls on the floor. In addition, we were never provided with a proper case for the hearing aid. What we were given was a soft bag placing the aid at risk for damage.I am not sure that any of the audiologists are licensed, and that that they meet the requirements of the NYS Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services, Speech-Language Unit.
I was informed by the NYS Department of State that the professional who tested by brother was a hearing aid dealer and not a licensed audiologist. On February 23, 2018 my brother had an appointment to see; a physician for an ENT evaluation. He received a recommendation for an evaluation for a battery of hearing tests and an evaluation for a hearing aid. That evaluation was performed at the NY Eye and Ear Infirmary on the same date and UHC will be sent the bill for this evaluation. On the same date a mold was made for the new aid he will receive.
The cost of to make the mold was $150.00 receipt for payment is enclosed. On March 9, 2018 he will be picking up his new Signa hearing aid along with itemized invoice. The approximate cost of the aid is $2,600.00. He is not expecting to pay any more for this new aid other than the same out of pocket expenditures he would have paid to Hi Health Innovations which was $565.00. This money was returned to him after he returned the hearing aid that was defective along with the mold that disconnected from the hearing aid.The hearing aid testing disclosed that there was a substantial difference in the testing performed in an acoustic laboratory and the tests that were done by Hi Health Innovations using a portable hearing testing device and performed by a Hearing Aid Dealer versus a qualified and Licensed NYS Audiologist.
In addition, the battery of tests performed by the Hearing Aid Dealer were insufficient to determine the full scope of his loss as a battery of tests was never performed prior to the selection of a hearing aid that would meet his needs.
There was no way the test performed by Hi Health Innovations Hearing Aid Dealer could possibly be used to determine the scope of his needs and matched with a Hi Health Innovation aid and may have further damaged his hearing. The mold caused pressure sores on his ear.My brother has been denied a hearing aid from another provider other than UHC because he could not benefit from the Hi-Health Innovations hearing aid manufactured and sold by UHC.I itemized the costs to date in an e-mail submitted to Hi-Health Innovations and I have updated them with all correspondence.
Did I buy something from them???

I agree that this is more than disappointing. I might as well have suck a pebble in my ear for all the good it does.
So sorry I got talked into this mess.
With or without the "hearing aid", my level of hearing is the same, no difference at all. I'm on SS so this was a major outlay of money for me & I feel completely ripped off.
I agree but I’ve even gone back to united healthcare and they did nothing to remedy. I think the people at United healthcare need hearing aids.
When I aske to speak to a supervisor I was left on hold and after a half hour I just hung up discussed and with no recourse. I even complained to my agent and he was not helpful either
